New hockey players get taste of 'the first shift'

Hundreds of excited hockey rookies got their gear — skates, a hockey bag, neck protector, jersey, shorts, protective pads and cup, socks, gloves, and, of course, a hockey stick — through the Canadian Tire First Shift at the Old Town Hall welcome event last night, hosted by the Newmarket Minor Hockey Association.
