This weekend's events include the free Thursday night concert with Bruce Springsteen tribute band Tommy Youngsteen, a South Asian community meet and greet, and winery paint 'n' picnic

Thursday, July 13

Summer Family Concerts with RUSS: Every Thursday, you can join children's entertainer RUSS for a free concert at the Newmarket Public Library’s multipurpose room in July and Aug. 10 to 24, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Storywalk Outdoor Reading Adventure, Thursdays to Sept. 1: Enjoy an enchanting outing with Newmarket Public Library’s Storywalk, an outdoor reading activity that will delight families and readers of all ages. Enjoy sunshine and fresh air as you stroll through parks while reading Kate and the Dragon. In July, Storywalk begins in Frank Stronach Park, followed by Paul Semple Park July 24 to Aug. 11, and Environmental Park Aug. 14 to Sept. 1. Library staff will be at the parks at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting, for special storytimes at: Frank Stronach Park July 13, 20; Paul Semple Park July 27 and Aug. 3, 10; Environmental Park Aug. 17, 24, 31.

TD Music Series, Thursdays to Aug. 24: Every Thursday evening enjoy a free tribute band concert from 6 to 9 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. Each concert features local performers and a premier tribute band. July 13 features Tommy Youngsteen (North America's premier Bruce Springsteen tribute), with Taylor Made Band opening. Food and beverages by North Newmarket Lions Club BBQ and Market Brewing Company. Bring a lawn chair and arrive early to secure a spot, and bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at the Quench Buggy. Also returning is the Mercedes-Benz Newmarket Backstage Lounge.

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games. 

East Gwillimbury Farmers Market: Every Thursday, rain or shine, the farmers market features local vegetables, artisan vendors, meat, cheese, baked goods, honey, soaps until Sept. 28 at the Civic Centre at 19000 Leslie St. in Sharon from 2 to 7 p.m. Some vendors may only accept cash payments.

Friday, July 14

York Region Poker League Tournament: Special stand-alone tournament open to ages 19 and older at the Newmarket Inn on Yonge Street, Holland Landing. Limited to the first 60 paid entries plus alternates, seats are reserved by RSVP until 6:55 pm. Late registration is available for the first six levels of play. Starts at 7 p.m. sharp. Registration at 6:20 p.m., please be early. $100 entry fee.

Saturday, July 15

Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning from May through October, Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space where our community gathers to support local food. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. 2nd Semi-Annual South Asian Meet & Greet Event: The event organized by The Samosa Master Inc. offers music, dance, games and activities for kids, henna artist, food and more from 6 to 9 p.m. at Newmarket Community Centre, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. Tickets $15 adults, $5 for kids age 5 and older at 905-924-0153 or at 130 Davis Dr.

English Country Dance: Join the dance at Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave. at Main Street, Newmarket from 2 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome; all dances taught; you don't need to bring a partner. Admission by donation; your first class is free. Join the group on the first, third and (when there is one) fifth Saturday of the month.

Scotiabank Stouffville Fusion Fest: Enjoy a celebration of food, music and culture in Memorial Park, 2 Park Dr., from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The festival proudly presents a lineup of live performances by renowned artists Joee, Armando, and Michalitsa. There will also be Kids Zone sponsored by Stouffville Academy of Music and Dance and Liuna Local 183.This is a free event is supporting Steer Friends, a local charity that provides day programs for individuals with physical and mental challenges. Paint 'n’ Picnic + Wine Tasting: Unleash your creativity, savour the flavours, and toast to a perfect blend of art and indulgence at Holland Marsh Winery, 18270 Keele St., Newmarket Paint n’ Picnic + Wine tasting from noon to 3 p.m.

Pat James at Ground Burger Bar: At 1 p.m., Aurora singer/songwriter Pat James performs at the Riverwalk Commons restaurant on Doug Duncan Drive.

Retro Ribfest Richmond Hill, July 21-23: Rib teams travel from across North America and feature a variety of food offerings that are sure to please any palate at Richmond Hill’s Ribfest. In addition to delicious food options, enjoy live entertainment or play all day in one of the region’s largest midways. On Friday, enjoy music and activities from the '90s and '80s, open from noon to 10 p.m. On Saturday, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., rewind to the rock 'n' roll of the '70s, and on Sunday, open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the sweet sounds of the '60s will fill the air, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Beer garden will be selling local craft beers. For all ages, no pets, free admission (cash only for vendors). At Richmond Green Park, 1300 Elgin Mills Rd. Newmarket ComiCon, Saturday, July 22: Vendors selling comic books, toys, video games, sports cards, jewelry and pretty much anything geeky cool from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. Admission $5 adults, children 12 and under get in free. If you purchase your ticket online, you get a free comic book at the door. Bring non-perishable food items for your local food bank and get entered to win some fun prizes.

Sunset Meditation at a Lavender Farm, Thursday, July 27: Join sunset beginner meditation in the lavender fields at Lavender Polo Farm, 20132 McCowan Rd.
