The 2023 TD Music Series kicks off tonight with Blame It All on Their Roots, a Garth Brook and Shania Twain tribute, and local performers The Beresfords.

Thursday, July 6

Summer Family Concerts with RUSS: Every Thursday, you can join children's entertainer RUSS for a free concert at the Newmarket Public Library’s multipurpose room in July and Aug. 10 to 24, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Storywalk Outdoor Reading Adventure, Thursday to Sept. 1: Enjoy an enchanting outing with Newmarket Public Library’s Storywalk, an outdoor reading activity that will delight families and readers of all ages. Enjoy sunshine and fresh air as you stroll through parks while reading Kate and the Dragon, written by Val Murray and illustrated by Sarah Johnston. In July, Storywalk begins in Frank Stronach Park, followed by Paul Semple Park July 24 to Aug. 11, and Environmental Park Aug. 14 to Sept. 1. Library staff will be at the parks on the following dates at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting, for special storytimes: Frank Stronach Park July 6, 13, 20; Paul Semple Park July 27 and Aug. 3, 10; Environmental Park Aug. 17, 24, 31.

TD Music Series, Thursdays, July 6 to Aug. 24: Every Thursday evening enjoy a free tribute band concert from 6 to 9 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. Each concert features local performers and a premier tribute band. On July 6, Blame It All On Their Roots (Garth Brooks, Shania Twain tribute) and The Beresfords. This year’s lineup includes a mix of country, pop, rock and soul. Bring a lawn chair and arrive early to secure a spot, and bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at the Quench Buggy. Also returning is the Mercedes-Benz Newmarket Backstage Lounge, food and beverage providers Mulberry’s Oven, Old Flame Brewing Company, Market Brewing Company and North Newmarket Lions.

East Gwillimbury Farmers Market: Every Thursday, rain or shine, the farmers market features local vegetables, artisan vendors, meat, cheese, baked goods, honey, soaps until Sept. 28 at the Civic Centre at 19000 Leslie St. in Sharon from 2 to 7 p.m. Some vendors may only accept cash payments.

Friday, July 7

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning from May through October, Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space where our community gathers to support local food. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. Lost & Found Market: A premium thrifting experience at Upper Canada Mall, featuring more than 30 vendors of vintage clothing, streetwear, sneakers, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy thrifting among a premium selection of curated goods, artisans and jewelry with food, drinks, and all the amenities that Upper Canada Mall has to offer. The first 10 people in line get free vintage / streetwear items.

Aurora Fashion Market: Sell your pre-loved clothes, or shop at the Aurora Fashion Market at the Stronarch Aurora Recreation Complex, 1400 Wellington St. East, from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.

Tianna at Main Street Music Hall: Get ready for a fun night of rocking country music to classic rock and blues, including music from JJ CALE, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and even Guns N' Roses when award-winning Tianna takes the stage at Main Street Music Hall. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show begins at 8 pm. Tickets $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Pet Festival 2023: Drop in anytime at the Pet Festival from 1 to 5 p.m., drop in anytime at Frank Stronach Park, 500 Memorial Cir. Each pet will get free snacks, refreshments and snacks will be provided for pet owners. Please ensure your pet is fully vaccinated, you will be responsible for the safety of your pet and yourself.

On July 13, Tommy Youngsteen (North America's premier Bruce Springsteen tribute) and opening performance Taylor Made Band. Food and Beverage: North Newmarket Lions Club barbecue, Market Brewing Company. Bring a lawn chair and arrive early to secure a spot, and bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at the Quench Buggy. 

Retro Ribfest Richmond Hill, July 21-23: Rib teams travel from across North America and feature a variety of food offerings that are sure to please any palate at Richmond Hill’s Ribfest. In addition to delicious food options, enjoy live entertainment or play all day in one of the region’s largest midways. On Friday, enjoy music and activities from the '90s and '80s, open from noon to 10 p.m. On Saturday, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., rewind to the rock 'n' roll of the '70s, and on Sunday, open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the sweet sounds of the '60s will fill the air, open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Beer garden will be selling local craft beers. For all ages, no pets, free admission (cash only for vendors). At Richmond Green Park, 1300 Elgin Mills Rd. East.; main entrance on south pathway, north of Richmond Hill Soccer Club House; secondary entrance on the interlock walkway north of Boynton House. Public parking available.

Newmarket ComiCon, Saturday, July 22: Vendors selling comic books, toys, video games, sports cards, jewelry and pretty much anything geeky cool from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. Admission $5 adults, children 12 and under get in free. If you purchase your ticket online, you get a free comic book at the door. Bring non-perishable food items for your local food bank and get entered to win some fun prizes.
