Popular Australian-inspired fashion market coming to Aurora

The monthly market, which appeals to shoppers who love a pre-owned bargain and re-sellers alike, is expanding from Innisfil to the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex beginning May 27

The monthly Innisfil Fashion Market is expanding to Aurora this month, offering people a place to sell their pre-loved clothes.

The Innisfil market was started by Georgia Allison when she was looking for somewhere to sell her own clothing.

"In Australia, it's really popular, we do a lot of fashion markets," she said. "We get rid of our unwanted wardrobes and make some fun cash and I realized there was nothing like that here."

Allison is from Australia but has been in Canada for three years after moving to Bradford with her partner.

At the Innisfil Fashion Market, individuals can book a clothing rack space or a 10-by-10 tent for a small fee to set up and sell their pre-owned clothing for whatever price they feel is best.

It started small but Allison said over time, "It honestly snowballed. It just became way bigger than we ever thought it possible."

The market got so big that she decided it was time to expand and add a second location.

"We wanted to branch out a second location and we just felt Aurora ... has a really great demographic and has a lot of surrounding communities," she said.

The first Aurora Fashion Market will be held May 27 at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and there will be one per month until October.

She said already spaces are booking up for people selling their items for the first couple of months.

"I'm hoping that that's a good sign that people will come in shop and have a good time," she said.

For shoppers, it is a similar experience to a thrift store but elevated to be more of a boutique feel, Allison said.

"We're finding locals really love that there's something for everyone. There's a price point for everyone that is achievable. And so you'll never leave empty handed," she said.

On top of the re-sellers, there are also small businesses and other vendors, live music and a kids play area.

The Aurora Fashion Market is free to attend for shoppers. For anyone interested in selling at the market, you can register online

Markets will take place May 27, June 17, July 8, Aug. 26, Sept. 16 and Oct. 7.
