Tim Hortons Canada Day 2019 Kanata Festival

When: Monday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

What’s going on: Day-long family-friendly activities, entertainment, inflatables, Motocross stunt show, beer garden and barbecue, buskers, food and community vendors, and more

Where: Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Dr.

Tim Hortons Canada Day 2019 fireworks

When: Monday, July 1 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The fireworks show is slated to begin at 10:10 p.m.

What’s going on: Cap off your Canada Day celebration with a 20-minute fireworks show, music by the Newmarket Citizens' Band and Switch Beat, food vendors, and more

Where: George Richardson Park, off Bayview Parkway

Main Street BIA’s Canada Day event

When: Monday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What’s going on: This is the BIA’s biggest event of the year with Newmarket’s historic Main Street front and centre. There will be vendors, food, live music, kids activities and more.

Road closures on Monday, July 1 include:

  • Timothy Street (Main Street to Doug Duncan Drive from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Doug Duncan Drive (Main Street to Water Street from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Main Street (Water Street to Queen Street from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) 

Parking lot closures include:

  • Parking Lot north of Riverwalk Commons (P3) 
  • Closed Saturday, June 29 at 1 p.m. to re-open Monday, July 1 at 7 p.m. 
  • A portion of the parking lot will remain closed until noon on Tuesday, July 2 for event tear-down. Vehicles will not be permitted to park in that lot during this time. Any unauthorized vehicles may be ticketed or towed.  

Parking along Doug Duncan Drive 

  • Closed Sunday, June 30 at 2 p.m. until Monday, July 1 at 6 p.m. 
  • Vehicles will not be permitted to park in those spots during that time. Any unauthorized vehicles may be ticketed or towed. 

Accessible parking 

On the day of the event, Monday July 1, event attendees requiring accessible parking and with a valid permit will be permitted to park along Doug Duncan Drive on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Please enter the event area from the intersection of Timothy Street and Prospect Street.  

Public parking

Free public parking is available in the downtown core at many locations. Visit here for more details.

Free bus shuttles:

  • Free shuttle buses will go to and from Riverwalk Commons every 30 minutes.
  • Service begins at 10:45 a.m. and the last bus leaves Riverwalk Commons at 4:30 p.m.
  • You can park at the Magna Centre (800 Mulock Dr.) or the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle St. West) and ride the free Kanata Bus Shuttle to and from the events. 
  • Both buses are accessible YRT buses that can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. 

Bus stop locations: 

  • Magna Centre: West Entrance 
  • Ray Twinney Recreation Complex: East Entrance (Main Entrance) 
  • Riverwalk Commons (to Magna): Bus stop at Doug Duncan Drive and Water Street, north side of Water Street 
  • Riverwalk Commons (to Ray Twinney): Bus stop at Doug Duncan Drive and Water Street, south side of Water Street

Canada Day, Monday, July 1, is a national statutory holiday and it’s a day off for most businesses, including banks, government offices.

What’s open 

Major malls and shopping centres are open, including Upper Canada Mall (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Promenade Shopping Mall (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Vaughan Mills, Tanger Outlet (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), CF Markville Mall (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Hillcrest Mall (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). 

The Walmart Supercentre on Yonge Street is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What’s closed

Most major grocery stores are closed, but some may be open on reduced hours.

Municipal recreation and fitness centres, including the Magna Centre, are closed and all classes are cancelled.

Newmarket Public Library is closed Mondays.

LCBO and the Beer Store outlets are closed.

Businesses and government offices are closed.

Banks and post offices are closed. Canada Post will not collect and deliver mail.
