The following is a running list of events, businesses and organizations that have announced cancellations, closures or postponements due to COVID-19. The Women's Centre of York Region has suspended all in-person services, and is offering some services at (905) 853-9270. The 4th Annual Mother’s Day Brunch scheduled for May 3, 2020 has been cancelled.

The Regional Municipality of York has closed its offices to the public.

York Regional Police Services Board has cancelled its March 25 meeting.

Ikea Canada has closed its stores, but continues to offer online shopping, home delivery service and click-and-collect pickup from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Water Street in Newmarket has suspended all worship services and activities until Sunday, April 5. In the meantime, its message to the community is to support the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Hudson's Bay is closing its stores, effective March 17, for two weeks, when operations will be reassessed.

Indigo/Chapters is closing all its retail locations at the end of business March 17 until March 27.

York Regional Police is closing its headquarters and stations to the public as of Wednesday, March 18. Call 911 in an emergency, as usual.

Newmarket fitness centres, including LA Fitness, Orange Theory Fitness, 9Round Fitness, and Function Studio, announced closures March 17 till further notice.

York Region District School Board has cancelled all board, advisory, and committee meetings.

Girl Guides of Canada is suspending all in-person Girl Guide activities until Tuesday, April 14. 

Longo's is temporarily adjusting store hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to provide staff "more time to sanitize, restock stores and rest" as of March 17.

The Town of Newmarket closed its Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Dr.), Robert N. Shelton Operations Centre (1275 Maple Hill Court) and all Central York Fire Service Offices to the public as of 5 p.m. Monday, March 16 until further notice. Character Community York Region has cancelled the 2020 Character Community Awards that were to be held on April 22, 2020.  

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons is recommending that dentists provide emergency treatment only, and that all non-essential and elective dental services be suspended immediately.

Some Upper Canada Mall retailers, including White House Black Market, Hudson’s Bay, Le Chateau, are operating at reduced hours, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., for a two-week period beginning March 16. Upper Canada Mall will remain open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for retailers and service providers stores choosing to operate during regular hours.

GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less are closing all locations across Canada until further notice.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has ordered Casino Rama and all Ontario casinos to be closed by Monday, March 16 until further notice.

The Fashion Never Hurts fashion show in support of Abuse Hurts has been rescheduled to June 4. 

The CFUW Aurora/Newmarket has cancelled its monthly meeting on March 24 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Aurora.

The York Regional Police community resource centre in Richmond Hill is closed. The collision reporting unit that is also located at the same 10720 Yonge St. location, will remain open for drivers to report collisions that occur in Newmarket, Aurora, King, Markham, Vaughan, and Richmond Hill. apolice advise that visitors to the collision reporting centre will be screened for COVID-19 and that wait times could be longer than normal.

The Anglican Diocese of Ontario has cancelled all Sunday church services until further notice.

As of Monday March 16, if you have a Provincial Offences Act, family or criminal court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice you do not need to attend court, unless the matter is an in-custody or urgent criminal matter or an urgent family matter.

The Newmarket Historical Society has cancelled its planned March 18 event at the Newmarket Lions Hall (200 Doug Duncan Dr.) featuring keynote speaker Frank Moritsugu, who experienced first-hand the Japanese-Canadian internment during Second World War. The society will also advise in the coming weeks about the status of its regular April 15 meeting. Check here for updates.

The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce is postponing the Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show, which was scheduled for April 3 to 5, as well as a March 19 seminar and March 25 member orientation. An alternate date for the show will be determined.

The Town of Newmarket will be closing all recreation and culture facilities and cancelling its programs, drop-in activities and March break camps from Friday, March 13 at midnight to Sunday, April 5. Facilities and programming will resume Monday, April 6, pending further developments. Click here for a full list of the closed facilities. Credits will be issued for cancelled programs and March Break camps. This cancellation also impacts outside organizations with bookings at Town facilities.

Newmarket Baseball Association has suspended all baseball activities, including practices, indoor sessions and other scheduled events for at least three weeks, effective immediately.

Southlake Foundation, "out of an abundance of caution" has postponed its annual Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake on April 26, 2020. A new date will be provided in the future and the Foundation will provide registered participants with ongoing updates..

The 2020 Toronto Sportsmen’s Show (March 18-22), which was set to take place at The International Centre in Mississauga, is cancelled. Attendees who have already purchased tickets will be notified by email. Exhibitors will be contacted as soon as possible with more information.

All publicly funded schools will be closed for two weeks following March break. York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board transportation services, continuing education, permit activities, before and after care programs and daycare would also be closed until April 5.

The Ontario Hockey League has suspended its season until further notice. 

The Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons concerts scheduled for Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 at Casino Rama Resort have been postponed. The casino is working to reschedule the performance and will provide details once available. Tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled performance or refunded at the original point of purchase.

The National Hockey League announced this afternoon that it has postponed the the 2019-20 season, beginning with games scheduled for Thursday night.
