The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce is postponing its annual spring home show and other events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board of directors decided today to postpone the Newmarket Home & Lifestyle Show, which was scheduled for April 3 to 5, as well as a March 19 seminar and March 25 member orientation.
"We will choose an alternate date for the show and will be carefully monitoring the ongoing situation," chamber president and CEO Tracy Walter said in an email to NewmarketToday.
In a letter to chamber members sent by email today, Walters said the chamber made the decision in the wake of Ontario Medical Officer of Health Dr. David William's recommendation that events and public gatherings of more 250 people be cancelled.
"The home show will be rescheduled at the earliest convenient date. Please note: If you have already booked your spot, your position in the rescheduled show is secure," the letter said. "Your patience, as we work through the details, is appreciated."
The three-day event, owned and operated by Newmarket Chamber of Commerce, is the largest home show in York Region, featuring hundreds of businesses offering products and services from decorating, renovations and landscaping to wellness and professional services.
The chamber will continue to evaluate if further cancellations or postponements are required, Walter said.
