As of Wedneday, March 18, York Regional Police is closing its facilities to the public to help combat the spread of COVID-19 — while officers will continue to respond to emergencies as they usually would.

In the case of an emergency, call 911, as usual.

For non-emergencies, call 1-866-876-5423 toll-free, or complete a report online at yrp.ca/ReportIt.

"Anyone contacting police for assistance can expect to be asked additional screening questions to limit the potential for spreading illness," the notice of the closure stated. "There will be no changes to police response in an emergency."

Applications for police record checks can be submitted online at yrp.ca/OnlineChecks, though completed police record checks will not be processed or issued while police facilities are closed. When services resume, applicants will be contacted with information about picking up their completed police record check.

"York Regional Police is employing a phased approach in its response and will continue to make adjustments based on the circumstances."

The force is closely monitoring the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation and following direction from Health CanadaOntario Ministry of Health and the Region of York Public Health Unit, the statement said.
