Main Street Newmarket planter vandals wanted for 'mischief'

York Regional Police have been unable to identify the suspect or suspects and are asking for the public's help to arrest whoever is responsible for damaging 17 planters

Vandals who knocked over planters along Main Street in Newmarket are being sought by York Regional Police.

Decorative planters along the street between Simcoe Street and Timothy Street were damaged overnight between Sept. 2 and Sept. 3, Sept. 4 and Sept. 5, and Sept. 5 and Sept. 6.

The Town of Newmarket spoke out about the vandalism shortly after the incidents occurred and called on residents to do their part in keeping the town beautiful.

Police said they are now seeking the suspect or suspects responsible for the 'mischief.' However, investigators have been unable to identify anyone who was involved and are now appealing to witnesses to come forward.

People who were in the area at those times and saw something suspicious, have dashcam footage, or other surveillance footage from those time periods that may have captured these incidents are urged to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #1 Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7142, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online

A similar incident occurred last year when planters on Main Street were kicked over and vandalized. In that case a 34-year-old Newmarket man was charged with mischief over $5,000.
