Georgina man, 30, charged in sexual assault of 14-year-old girl

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section have charged a 30-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Georgina.

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, shortly after 10:30 p.m., a 14-year-old female victim was walking in the area of Metro Road South in Georgina. She was approached by a male suspect who threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries. The suspect was not known to the victim. He was described as male, white, approximately 30 years of age, unshaven and wearing a black hoodie with a logo, black shorts with a white trim.

Video surveillance from an area close to the location of the incident was released on June 4, and investigators received several tips that helped identify the suspect. York Regional Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in sharing the information, which resulted in the suspect turning himself in.

On June 10, investigators arrested and charged the suspect connected to the incident.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.

If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if: 

  • You are not in danger 
  • The person who assaulted you is not present 
  • There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred. 
  • You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not have access
