The driver involved in a fatal collision that took the life of a 10-year-old girl in Vaughan in September has been charged.

Thahn Loan Nyguen, 33, of Mississauga has been charged with careless driving causing death in relation to the Sept. 1 collision, according to York Regional Police.

The girl — identified in a public statement by her family as Nikita — was struck by a Hyundai SUV while riding her bike at about 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1 on Pleasant Ridge Avenue, between Basie Gate and Coltrane Drive.

The girl was transported to the hospital, where she died the following day.

The driver had remained at the scene.

"She had a huge heart, was courageous, very friendly and full of life. She touched  the lives of many in her short time here on Earth," the family said of Nikita in the statement released through police.

Nyguen is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket on Feb. 3, 2022.
