2 Newmarket men charged, gun, drugs seized after shooting at Georgina party

Third suspect still wanted in the incident last December that left 2 men injured, York Regional Police say

Two men from Newmarket are facing multiple charges in relation to a shooting at a house party in Georgina last December. 

Aaron Fahey, 23, and Sergio Sortino, 31, each face 18 charges in connection with the shooting in the area of Old Homestead Road and Catering Road on Dec. 10, 2021, York Regional Police said. 

Police were called to Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket at about 2:50 a.m. Dec. 11 for a report of a male patient being treated for a gunshot wound. They were called back about noon that day for a second male victim with a gunshot injury. Investigators determined both men had attended the party. 

Along with the arrests, police executed a search warrant at a Newmarket residence where they recovered a firearm and quantity of cocaine. 

Fahey and Sortino have been charged with the following: 

  • aggravated assault 
  • assault causing bodily harm 
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
  • Break and Enter with Intent x2
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Licence
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm without Registration Certificate
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Uttering Threats

Police said a third suspect is also wanted in connection with the shooting. He is described as a black male with medium complexion, aged 20 to 30, and is approximately 5 feet 10 inches with a medium build.
