Friday, Oct. 13

Film Fridays at Newmarket Public Library: No registration required, just drop in and enjoy a free movie in the multipurpose room at 2 p.m., doors open at 1:45 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Oct. 13 The Return of Tanya Tucker (2022). In this highly acclaimed documentary, singer Brandi Carlisle writes an entire album for her musical hero, country star Tanya Tucker, with all the songs based on Tucker’s life. After decades away from the spotlight, the album results in one of the greatest comebacks in country music. Rated R

Friday the 13th Haunted Hollows Halloween Attraction: What better day to scream a little? Check out the thrilling and entertaining attractionat the 2.5 acre Scream Park featuring live actors, a series animatronics, special effects and custom scenes at 18444 Yonge St., East Gwillimbury from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets $37.

Friday the 13th Party: Bands G.F.U., Xero Tolerance and Dad Sabbath are at Newmarket's Lion Pub and Grill for a Friday the 13th party starting at 9 p.m. at the 1091 Gorham St.

Babes Who Bash: Barbie & Ken Soiree: You may already know the iconic Babes Who Brunch, now meet Babes Who Bash (aka Babes who love a night out). Join them from 7 p.m. to midnight at EVENTMRKT, 352 Doug Duncan Dr., Newmarket for a memorable night featuring gourmet appetizers, specialty cocktails, live entertainment, photo booth access, entry to win a spa day for you & your Barbie-bestie. Tickets, $56.

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games. 

Cooper's Farm Night Maze, to Oct. 26: Explore the corn maze in the dark — note, this is not a Halloween scare maze. Tickets, $23 to $30/person, no charge for children under age three, at 266 Ashworth Rd., Zephyr from 7 to 9 p.m. (check in opens at 6:30 p.m.) One pumpkin included with admission.

15th Annual Newmarket Artwalk & Studio Tour, Oct. 14 & 15: The 15th Annual Art Walk & Studio Tour is a free walkable event in and around Newmarket’s historic downtown district. Visitors are able to see a wide variety of juried, original art on display in artists’ home studios, in local businesses, and at public facilities. The tour is a great opportunity to visit with artists, purchase original art, and enjoy Newmarket’s amazing restaurants, cafes and shops. On Main Street Newmarket, 461 Park Ave., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bradford West Gwillimbury 7th Annual Pumpkin Fest: Enjoy family activities, including busker pitch, inflatable maze and games, mini golf, tractor and wagon rides, kids zone, pumpkin carving (while supplies last), as well as live entertainment, Bradford farmers market, food and more. No admission, but bring a non-perishible donation for the food bank. At Henderson Memorial Park, 3171 9th Line, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning to October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space, featuring the harvest festival today. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. International Jive--The Basics for Your Next Energetic Dance, Sundays, to Nov. 12: Simple Social Dancing invites you to come and learn how to dance to music such as Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like a Woman, rock tunes (think Miley Cyrus’ Flowers) or Christina Aguilera’s Candyman and Big Band swing music at Newmarket Public Library, 638 Park Ave., from 5 to 6:10 p.m. Registration $5.

Jersey Nights, Saturday, Oct. 21: Jersey Nights tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons sell out venues everywhere they perform. They will have you singing and dancing in your seat all night long, featuring songs such as Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh, What a Night. Tickets, $32 to $55, here, at NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 8 p.m. 

Wedding Show, Sunday, Oct. 22: Silver Lakes Golf Club hosts a free wedding show at its picturesque golf course with an outside ceremony site and covered pavilion, with local vendors to help you plan your wedding. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 21114 Yonge St, East Gwillimbury.

NACCA Gala and Volunteer Appreciation Night, Thursday, Oct. 26: Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association hosts its 5th anniversary celebration, fall fundraising wrap-up and appreciation of volunteers at the Old Town Hall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., including a three-course meal, complimentary glass of wine, live music and entertainment, raffle. Proceeds go to NACCA’s programs and community support. Limited tickets, $161 each, available.

Singalong with Russ Fall Concerts, Saturday, Oct. 28: Children’s entertainer Russ is back at Newmarket Public Library for his annual fall concert, a fun, interactive show. Children age six months to 5 years and families love the songs, the laughter, and having a great time. 10 to 10:45 a.m., and 11 to 11:45 a.m.
$3 per child.

Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, Wed., Nov. 1: Halloween fun continues in downtown Newmarket, brought to you by The Postmark Hotel and OVFH. Kids are invited to wear their costumes and trick-or-treat at participating locations (look for the pumpkin poster in the window) on Main, Timothy and Botsford streets from 4 to 6 p.m.

Pickering College Seasonal Boutique, Saturday, Nov. 18: Join Pickering College for its annual seasonal boutique, featuring a charming array of local vendors showcasing the finest holiday gifts. Prepare to be captivated as you browse through a delightful selection of jewelry, candles, soap, freshly baked goods and granola, knitted items, hot sauce, woodcrafts, beautiful flowers and more. Drag Queen Storytime with the Haus of Devereaux, Saturday, Nov. 4: Drop by Newmarket Public Library for this fun, family storytime event returning by popular demand and featuring E’Claire and Athena from the Haus of Devereaux. Enjoy acclaimed and age appropriate 2SLGBTQ+ stories, crafts and plenty of fun for everyone. Story sessions will be at approximately 2 and 3 p.m.  No registration required.
