Thursday, Sept. 21

Salvation Army Charity Mental Health Gala: Support mental health services offered by The Salvation Army, Central York Region at a gala featuring live music and dancing with George St. Kitts, inspiring speeches by mental health advocates, food and drinks (non-alcoholic only) live and online auction. The event supports mental health services for individual/family group therapy. From 7 to 10:30 p.m. at 15338 Leslie St., Aurora (Northridge Community Church) Tickets $100.

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games. 

East Gwillimbury Farmers Market: Every Thursday, rain or shine, the farmers market features local vegetables, artisan vendors, meat, cheese, baked goods, honey, soaps until Sept. 28 at the Civic Centre at 19000 Leslie St. in Sharon from 2 to 7 p.m. Some vendors may only accept cash payments.

Friday, Sept. 22

Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign York Region Launch: Bring a donation of a gently used or new purse filled with personal care items to support women in crisis in our community at the campaign launch at the Tickled Toad Pub & Grill, 330 Steeles Ave. West, Thornhill beginning at 7 p.m. with live music by Newmarket's Glenn Marais at 8 p.m. Raffle, silent auction and prizes, too.

Simply Queen: Live Queen tribute band Simply Queen performs all the iconic songs that have made Queen one of the most legendary rock bands of all time and faithfully recreates the grand scope of Queen's live shows — musically and visually capturing the amazing live Queen experience that has filled stadiums around the world. The band is fronted by Freddie Mercury impersonator extraordinaire, Rick Rock (vocal/piano/guitar), CC Lambrick (guitar/keyboards/vocal), Mitch Taylor (bass/vocal) & Phil Charrette (drums/vocals). Saturday, Sept. 23

CYFS Open House, Saturday, Sept 23: Aurora and Newmarket residents are invited to get to know their local fire department and learn more about simple but important actions that prevent fires at home from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central York Fire Services Station 4-5, 300 Earl Stewart Dr. in Aurora. The event is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8 to 14, which focuses on the importance of cooking safety this year, according to a news release. Enjoy morning coffee and doughnuts, barbecue hotdogs, Tim Hortons Express Train, arts and crafts, prizes, games, Sparky the Fire Dog, interactive fire safety activities and more.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning to October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. CHATS Amazing Launch & Marketplace: CHATS hosts a launch event for its upcoming Amazing Adventure fundraising event at Goblets and Goblins , 17766 Leslie St., Newmarket from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring an artisan market with a beer tent and barbecue. Learn about the Amazing Adventure in support of seniors in our community.

Skatepark Naming Celebration: The Town of Newmarket hosts a celebration of the naming of the telMAX Outdoor Skatepark from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr. with skateboarding, ice cream, pizza, giveaways and more.

International Jive--The Basics for Your Next Energetic Dance, Sundays, to Nov. 12: Simple Social Dancing invites you to come and learn how to dance to music such as Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like a Woman, rock tunes (think Miley Cyrus’ Flowers) or Christina Aguilera’s Candyman and Big Band swing music at Newmarket Public Library, 638 Park Ave., from 5 to 6:10 p.m. Registration $5.

Mission IV Gospel Artists, Saturday, Oct. 7: Church of The Nazarene, 79 Main St. South, Newmarket hosts a free gospel concert at 7 p.m. Dessert, coffee at 6 p.m.

15th Annual Newmarket Artwalk & Studio Tour, Oct. 14 & 15: The 15th Annual Art Walk & Studio Tour is a free walkable event in and around Newmarket’s historic downtown district. Visitors are able to see a wide variety of juried, original art on display in artists’ home studios, in local businesses, and at public facilities. The tour is a great opportunity to visit with artists, purchase original art, and enjoy Newmarket’s amazing restaurants, cafes and shops. On Main Street Newmarket, 461 Park Ave., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NACCA Gala and Volunteer Appreciation Night, Thursday, Oct. 26: Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association hosts its 5th anniversary celebration, fall fundraising wrap-up and appreciation of volunteers at the Old Town Hall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., including a three-course meal, complimentary glass of wine, live music and entertainment, raffle. Proceeds go to NACCA’s programs and community support. Limited tickets, $161 each, available.

Pickering College Seasonal Boutique, Saturday, Nov. 18: Join Pickering College for its annual seasonal boutique, featuring a charming array of local vendors showcasing the finest holiday gifts.
