Vaughan long-term care facility charged with public health infraction

One food establishment in York Region was charged for a public health violation by York Region inspectors last week.

Villa Leonardo Gambin in Vaughan, 40 Friuli Crt., was charged on Dec. 6 for operating food premises while failing to provide mechanical equipment with rinse water temperature thermometer, according to the report for inspections made Dec. 4 to 10 by York Region Community and Health Services, health protection division.  

During a compliance inspection on Dec. 4, health inspectors noted the long-term care facility failed to store and maintain potentially hazardous food at an internal temperature 4°C (40°F) and lower; failed to provide a thermometer in refrigeration equipment that is easily readable; failed to provide hand washing stations that are conveniently accessible by food handlers; failed to provide hand washing station with adequate supplies; and failed to provide adequate protection against the entrance of pests.

All infractions were corrected during the inspection and food handler education was carried out. The establishment was then charged during a re-inspection on Dec. 6 and food handler education was once again carried out.
