Preliminary winners take to Magna Showdown stage Aug. 8

Newmarket residents Emily Cook, Sofia Jardine, Jessica Langford, and Lauren Law are among the 40 contestants who have qualified for the preliminaries of the provincewide Magna Hoedown Showdown talent contest Aug. 8.

The Hoedown Showdown country music talent competition, an Ontario-wide contest that promotes aspiring musical artists, offers a grand prize valued at more than $25,000 and includes: 

  • $2,500 cash prize; 
  • Yamaha guitar and amp package; 
  • $2,500 styling and gift card package from Upper Canada; 
  • Two full days of recording at Metalworks Studios; 
  • “The Ultimate Artist Package” with professional management, coaching, styling, and song-writing by industry professionals and; 
  • The opportunity to perform at the Magna Hoedown on Sept. 14.

The semi-finalists will move forward to the Aug. 21 competition.

The Magna Hoedown takes place Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14, marking the 31st year for York Region's largest annual fundraiser, with more than $13 million raised for hundreds of local charities, non-profits and community groups since the first backyard party hosted by Magna founder Frank Stronach.
