“We’re returning to our roots and starting the evening with special country Tribute Artists to get the party going,” said spokesperson Erin Cerenzia.

The 31st annual Wild Wild West festivities Sept. 14 at the “Magna Corral” in Aurora will feature performances by past Magna Hoedown Showdown winners and up-and-coming artists, she said, with the announcement of a “Hoedown fan favourite” headliner coming July 21.

The event, which will raise funds for 20 local charities, will include a silent auction, a Texas-style barbecue dinner, and three special door prize draws throughout the evening.

“We’ll be drawing the winning Prospector’s Raffle tickets and someone will go home with a grand prize of $100,000,” Cerenzia said.

The Magna Hoedown kicks off Friday, Sept. 13 from 6:30 to 11: 45 p.m. with the Hoedown Showdown Finalists performing country classics and a headliner to be announced July 4.

A Food Trucks and Craft Beer Festival adds to the fun, with the first 500 attendees in the tent receiving complimentary craft beer tasting tickets.

The main event is Saturday, September 14 from 5 to 11:45 p.m. This year, the dinner meal purchase is optional; $15 if purchased in advance, $20 while quantities last at the event.

Prospector’s Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance from all Hoedown recipient charities or in person at the event Friday and Saturday. You do not need to be in attendance to win.

The Magna Hoedown is the largest annual fundraiser in York Region and has raised more than $13 million dollars for hundreds of local charities, non-profits, and community groups since its beginnings 31 years ago.

In addition to the funds raised, the Hoedown impacts the community by hosting the Magna Student Hoedown, a free concert and luncheon for 1,000 York Region students with disabilities, Cerenzia said.

As well, the Hoedown Showdown talent competition fosters the arts.

The event also maintains a zero- waste policy to enhance environmental sustainability, she added.
