No COVID-19 charges laid in York Region for 2nd time this month

In the past week, no charges were laid by the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force for businesses and individuals violating the provincial measures. 

This is the second week in July without charges under the Reopening Ontario Act. 

Between Monday, July 13 and Sunday, July 18, there were 423 inspections at businesses, resulting in no charges being laid.  

However, 117 education activities were completed last week.

In Newmarket, there were 52 inspections at businesses, resulting in 26 education activities. 

Across the region, York Region Public Health was responsible for 46 of the education actions, York Regional Police completed 40, and the remaining three were by Town of Georgina bylaw officers. 

In total, since enforcement began in March 2020, there have been 69,666 inspections in York Region, leading to 30,420 education activities and 1,418 charges.
