For the first time in many months, no charges were laid in York Region for businesses and individuals violating the province’s COVID-19 measures last week.

Between Monday, June 28 and Sunday, July 4, the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force completed 460 inspections at businesses and no charges were laid.

“Inspections carried out indicate most businesses and customers in York Region are adhering to COVID-19 safety measures and protocols,” the region said in a news release.

However, there were 116 education activities completed last week.

Of these, York Regional Police carried out 59 education activities, York Region Public Health completed 37, York Region Transit had 10 education activities, the Town of Newmarket had five, the City of Richmond Hill had three, and the Town of Aurora and Town of East Gwillimbury each carried out one education activity.

The most recent enforcement period saw the province move into step 2 of the reopening plan, allowing for outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people, expanded patio seating limits, increased retail capacity, and the reopening of personal care services, among others.

In total since enforcement began in March 2020, there have been 68,686 inspections in York Region,  resulting in 30,064 education activities and 1,410 charges.
