The Town of Newmarket is getting the ice ready at Riverwalk Commons.

The onset of cold weather will allow Newmarket skaters to once again enjoy the outdoor rink at Riverwalk Commons.

The downtown rink is set to open Nov. 19, according to the town. Newmarket staff have worked to ready the ice for the public throughout the week.

“Skaters are reminded to be courteous and respect all skaters,” the town said. “Please refrain from horseplay.”

Weather permitting, the skating rink will be open from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. each day. It is only available for recreational skating, with no sticks, pucks, balls, or nets allowed.

The town encourages skaters to wear CSA-approved helmets.

Coming soon is the town's Winter Wonderland Frozen Fridays throughout December, beginning Dec. 2, with DJ music, outdoor skating, train rides on the Tim Hortons Express Train (weather permitting), free hot chocolate from Hungry Brew Hops, and LED/fire busker performances from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons.

Returning this year are the exciting light shows on the LED trees every 30 minutes starting at 6:15 p.m.
