The Town of Newmarket wants your input on the plans for a park at the former site of the Hollingsworth Arena.
The town is hosting a public meeting June 23 at the Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place to influence the future design of the park. The town said the meeting would feature hands-on, interactive experiences.
“Help us to create the future Hollingsworth Park that will become a gathering spot for the community,” the town said in a news release.
The aging Hollingsworth Arena was demolished in January 2021 and the town sold a portion of the land to a developer for a condominium project, with a plan that the remaining land would be for public use.
Deputy Mayor Tom Vegh has previously pitched the land for other uses like a new library building, but the town is not pursuing a new facility at this time.
Developer Briarwood is slated to provide $500,000 toward park amenities as part of its development agreement for two condominium towers under construction.
The public consultation invites you to drop in anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to participate. You can find more information at newmarket.ca/iwonderhollingsworth.
"Join us and reimagine the Hollingsworth Park," the town said.
