Drivers warned of areas of dense fog in Newmarket

Travel expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations, Environment Canada says

Environment Canada is warning drivers there may be near zero visibility on the roads as it issues a fog advisory for Newmarket and the surrounding area.

The dense fog is expected to continue into the afternoon. 

The full weather statement issued by Environment Canada follows below: 

Fog advisory in effect for:

  • Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region
  • Vaughan - Richmond Hill - Markham

Near zero visibility in fog is expected or occurring.

Hazard:
Near zero visibility in dense fog.

Timing:
Continuing into early this afternoon.

Discussion:
Areas of dense fog are expected to continue into early this afternoon. Fog may persist through the afternoon for some areas, particularly over higher terrain.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. If travelling, be prepared for areas of near-zero visibility. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
