COVID-19: Ontario reports 9 more deaths, rising hospitalizations of 855

Public Health Ontario is reporting 855 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 3,233 new COVID cases today, however, these numbers may be underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.

Not all hospitals report a daily bed census over the weekend.

York Region Public Health does not provide weekend updates.

The April 2 updates for April 1 provided by the province's public health agency and Ministry of Health also reported the following data:

  • 1,913 recoveries and 7 deaths
  • Of the new cases reported today, 441 were not fully vaccinated, 864 were fully vaccinated, 1776 had received a booster and 152 are listed as vaccination status unknown.
  • 165 patients are in ICU with COVID-19 related illness.
  • 99 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (23 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 16,001 tests were processed yesterday with a 20.2 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 5,979 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, over 23 million tests have been completed.

Vaccines

  • There were 10,898 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 32,084,745 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 12,122,293 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,169,361 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,133,514 recoveries and 12,460 deaths, 4,419 of those in long-term care homes.
