Re: Letter to the Editor, Belinda's Place donor left feeling disappointed, shocked, Oct. 22, 2022; and Newmarket women's shelter holding drive for needed items, Oct. 13, 2022

When I read in Newmarket Today about the woman who had a frustrating and ridiculous time trying to get someone to accept her bags of donations at Belinda's Place, I felt I should share a polar opposite experience I had recently at another organization that supports abused women.

Like that woman, I spent quite some time gathering bags and bags of items for an organization called Abuse Hurts. When I arrived at the drop-off location, I was early (I had scheduled a drop-off time) but the door was answered promptly and I was greeted warmly. The woman who unloaded my car must have thanked me 10 times. As the woman from Beaverton aptly said, we don't expect a parade when we do these things, but we do expect to be welcomed and thanked.

I'd also like to mention that Abuse Hurts operates a wonderful shop called Delivering Hope that sells clothing, accessories, home decor and more at amazing prices.
