Members of the Road Safety Bureau’s regional enforcement priorities (REP) team conducted a two-week enforcement initiative at retail liquor stores across the region, focusing on Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code offences. Officers worked closely with store managers to prevent and disrupt thefts of liquor while also conducting sobriety RIDE checks, commercial vehicle investigations and focusing on drivers with suspended licences.
The initiative, which ran between Nov. 14 and 25, 2022, resulted in:
- Thirteen arrests
- Twenty-six Criminal Code charges laid
- Twenty-four provincial offence notices
- Two drivers were under driving prohibitions related to alcohol
- Seven drivers were under suspension
- Four commercial vehicles were taken out of service for safety violations
REP team officers will continue to conduct commercial vehicle investigations and RIDE spot checks to ensure the safety of all road users. We remind those who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol that not only are police officers watching for them, but our citizens also refuse to tolerate this behaviour through the Safe Roads: You’re Call Program. Anyone choosing to put others at risk by driving while impaired should expect to be caught and charged.
