York police, SIU both investigating Vaughan shooting

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate in connection with a police-involved shooting that occurred when York Regional Police officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Islington Avenue in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2019, shortly after 8 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was suspected to be stolen on Steeles Avenue East, west of Islington Avenue.

An altercation occurred with police and the occupants of the vehicle. The male occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries. The female occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution. An officer was also taken to hospital as a precaution but has since been released.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now conducting an investigation into the incident. York Regional Police is conducting its own parallel investigation.
