Investigators with the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit have shut down an illegal store where alcohol was being sold in the City of Markham.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, an investigation began into a commercial unit located at 145 Royal Crest Court, where it was believed that alcohol was being sold. As the investigation progressed, it became apparent that there were regular customers attending the commercial unit and purchasing liquor and beer.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, investigators executed a search warrant at the commercial unit. Two men were placed under arrest without incident. Investigators found more than $100,000 worth of alcohol in a store front as well as alcohol being stored in moving trucks. Investigators believe that the alcohol was being purchased in Quebec and transported to Markham for sale.

Investigators also located various cannabis and CBD oil products that were pre-packaged for sale. As a result, investigators sought and obtained a Cannabis Act search warrant where they seized pre-packaged CBD oil, packaging materials, cannabis edibles, dried cannabis, and pre-packaged CBD vaping cartridges.
