York police kick off annual toy, food drive for local families (11 photos)

The force's Holiday Heroes campaign welcomes your support through donations of cash, toys, clothing, gift cards until Dec. 13

York Regional Police has kicked off its annual Holiday Heroes campaign to help families in need during the holidays.

With campaign partner the Newmarket Soccer Club, the drive was officially launched yesterday with remarks and a soccer game between police and coaches at the indoor facility.

Until Dec. 13, 2019, you are asked to drop off new unwrapped toys, new children's clothing, gift cards, Canadian Tire money or monetary donations at any York Regional Police facility, including #1 District headquarters at 240 Prospect St. in Newmarket, #3 District headquarters at 3527 Baseline Rd. in Sutton, York Regional Police Headquarters at 47 Don Hillock Dr. in Aurora and at the Community Resource Centre at 10720 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill.

You can also donate at yrp.ca/hhdonate to help buy groceries and other items that are desperately needed such as winter clothing, diapers and formula.

All donations directly support families from the community who have registered for assistance through local Salvation Army programs and Victim Services of York Region.

The force will also be out in the community throughout the campaign accepting donations, including at Canadian Tire in Newmarket on Yonge Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 28 and 30, and at Upper Canada Mall on Yonge Street Dec. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more locations, visit here.

Since the launch of Holiday Heroes in 2008, York Regional Police has raised more than $1.5 million in monetary donations, new toys, new children's clothing and food.
