Warrants issued for suspects in York Region break-ins, thefts

Men wanted in connection with incidents at Buddhist places of worship in Markham, Whitchurch-Stouffville

Police have issued Canada-wide warrants for two men wanted in connection with numerous break-ins and thefts at places of worship in Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Between July 21 and Sept. 28, York Regional Police responded to six break-ins and thefts at Buddhist places of worship.

Warrants have been issued for Ion Saveriu and Vasile Stefan, both 27 and of no fixed address. They are each wanted on two counts of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police are still looking for two other suspects, who are believed to be 30 to 40 years old. One is five-foot-10, with a thin build, black hair and a partial beard. The other is about six feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, with a medium build and short black hair.

Police say the suspects are associated with three vehicles, including a dark-coloured SUV, a white Hyundai Elantra and, possibly, a silver four-door Toyota Corolla, model years between 2014 and 2016.
