York Regional Police is sharing video of Air Support Unit officers in Air2 as they work with ground units to locate a missing vulnerable woman from the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020 shortly after 3 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a residence in the area of Warden Avenue south of Stouffville Road, for a report of a missing vulnerable woman. When officers arrived, they spoke with a concerned family member who reported her 89-year-old mother was missing. She had last been seen at the residence more than an hour before police were called. The daughter was concerned as she was unfamiliar with the area and not dressed for the cold weather.

Frontline officers, along with officers from the Canine Unit and Air2, attended the scene and began searching the more than 150-acre property. Shortly before 4 p.m., officers in Air2 spotted the missing woman next to a wooded area on the property. They guided canine officers to her location and confirmed that it was in fact the missing woman. She was examined by York Region Paramedics at the scene and found to be in good health.

York Regional Police would like to remind residents of the Project Lifesaver program that is designed to assist police in protecting and locating some of our most vulnerable citizens if they become lost. It is a reliable, rapid-response system that assists people who are vulnerable as a result of a brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, autism or mental health challenge. Participants wear a radio transmitter bracelet that continuously emits a unique frequency that can be tracked by specially trained search and rescue personnel.

The Vulnerable Person Registry allows an improved police response to vulnerable people who may require emergency assistance due to their condition. It expedites the process of locating and assisting vulnerable residents or frequent visitors to York Region by making essential personal information readily available to responding officers.
