A major stretch of southbound Highway 400 through Bradford was closed Sunday morning due to two serious collisions.
OPP responded to the first incident, a single-vehicle rollover, on the 400 at Line 5 on Nov. 5 at about 2:47 a.m. The driver of that vehicle sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
During this investigation, officers called in Ministry of Transportation blocker trucks to help with lane closures.
Then at 7:03 a.m., two ministry employees who were outside of the blocker trucks they were driving were struck by a passenger vehicle travelling southbound. The employees sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and were transported via Ornge helicopter to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
The driver who allegedly struck the employees, and a passenger in their vehicle, were transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries, OPP Const. Taylor Konkle told BradfordToday.
Police have closed the 400 southbound between highways 88 and 9, a stretch that includes the area around the Line 5 bridge.
"That whole stretch is closed because they are still trying to clean up the initial collision and they had to attend the second collision scene," Konkle said.
Two separate collision investigation teams are on scene to figure out exactly what happened. Charges could be laid depending on the outcome of those probes, he said.
This section of the 400 is expected to be closed for several more hours Sunday.
