Members of York Regional Police #5 District Uniform Patrol have charged a man and woman with multiple offences related to firearms and drugs following a traffic stop in the City of Markham.

On Monday, Nov. 20, 2023 at 2 a.m., members of the York Regional Police #5 District uniform patrol stopped and investigated two occupants of a white Ford Edge motor vehicle being operated with expired licence plates on Cochrane Drive. Officers observed open liquor and cannabis readily available to the driver. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of a loaded Glock .40 calibre handgun and a quantity of drugs.

Charged:
    •    Takesha Dallas, female, 29, of the Town of Georgetown
    •    Trey Anthony Sangs, male, 25, of the Town of Whitby

Charges include:
    •    Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle
    •    Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
    •    Transport Prohibited Firearm
    •    Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
    •    Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
    •    Prohibited Firearm – Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order (Sangs)

Trey Sangs was already on a firearms prohibition at the time of these offences.

The two accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.

“It’s concerning when we find an illegal handgun and it’s especially frustrating when it’s found in the possession of someone prohibited from having firearms by the courts,” said York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween. “Despite the challenges, our officers are diligently patrolling our communities and working hard to keep our streets safe.”

Anyone with information about this matter is asked to call the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online.
