Two 19-year-olds charged after weapons call prompts evacuation at Vaughan Mills

The Vaughan teens are facing multiple firearms-related offences

York Regional Police has charged two Vaughan teenagers after responding to a firearms call at Vaughan Mills outlet mall Saturday, July 3. 

Julius Olatayo Asha and Kimanie Khaleed James Turner, both 19, are facing multiple charges. 

Police responded about 3:30 p.m. after reports of two males inside a sports clothing store, with one believed to be carrying a handgun, according to a news release. 

The area was contained by police, evacuated, and the two suspects were arrested. 

Police said a handgun was located after the suspects were searched. 

Following the arrest, search warrants executed at both of the suspects’ residences lead to the seizure of ammunition and additional weapons. 

Both men are facing a number of charges, including: 

  • Careless Use of a Firearm 
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Making an Automatic Firearm 
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With 
  • Possession of a Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized 
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon 
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm without Registration Certificate 
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
