Toronto man, woman charged with attempt murder in Vaughan shooting

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in connection with a shooting that occurred in the City of Vaughan.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at 11 p.m., the 31-year-old male victim was standing in a parking lot in the area of 71 Strada Dr. The male suspect approached the victim, pointed a firearm at him and fired multiple shots, hitting the victim several times.

The male suspect fled the area in a silver Mercedes. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has since recovered. Through the investigation, officers identified two suspects connected to the incident.

On June 10, 2021, investigators arrested the first suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence in Toronto. A loaded handgun was located along with a quantity of drugs, including 797 grams of methamphetamine, seven grams cocaine, 14 Xanax pills and 27 Oxycodone pills.

The second suspect was arrested on Sunday, June 13, 2021 and has been charged.

  • Discharge a restricted firearm with Intent
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm/weapon with ammunition x2
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number altered
  • Possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possess cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possess methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possess Xanax (Alprazolam) for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possess Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking

 Tania Sabandovera, 25, of Toronto

Charge:

  • Attempt murder

Investigators are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. They are also seeking any video surveillance from the area.
