SUV collides with car, then ends up hitting tree on front lawn in Newmarket

Witnesses say a Porsche SUV rammed the back of car on College Manor, before jumping the sidewalk and hitting a tree several houses further along the street Friday night

A Porsche SUV came to a stop after hitting a tree on the front lawn of a College Manor Drive house, minutes after crashing into the rear of a car driving on the Newmarket street Friday evening.

York Regional Police officers on the scene could not provide any details as the investigation was getting underway for the collision that occurred at about 6:30 p.m., but a resident of the house said she provided translation from Mandarin for the female driver, who was able to exit the SUV after the collision but had visible injuries. A passenger, an elderly man, was also able to exit the vehicle whose front end was severely damaged, she said.

The driver of a Chevrolet sedan said he and his two passengers were "shocked" and "scared" when his vehicle was suddenly rammed from behind while he was driving on College Manor near Londry Court. He said they were not injured.

It's not clear how the SUV travelled at least four houses further along the street, before jumping the sidewalk and colliding with the trunk of the large tree.

An update will be provided when available.
