Suspect wanted for fatal fail-to-remain on Davis turns himself in

A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in East Gwillimbury last fall after turning himself into police. 

The incident occurred on Sept. 28, 2022 on Davis Drive just west of Newmarket, between Bales Road and Warden Avenue. Police located a deceased 70-year-old male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. 

A green Toyota Corolla driven by a man was sought by investigators after the incident. 

On Feb. 21, the suspect turned himself into York Regional Police at #1 District in Newmarket. 

John Romano, 51, of East Gwillimbury has now been charged with fail to stop after an accident causing death. 

YRP is still appealing to any witnesses who may have dashcam or video surveillance footage from the area to come forward if they haven't already spoken with investigators.
