Man found dead on Davis, police suspect hit and run

Davis Drive is closed between Bales Drive and Warden Avenue for the investigation

A man has been found deceased on Davis Drive, just east of Newmarket on Sept. 28 and York Regional Police said he could be the victim of a fail to remain collision.

Officers discovered the man shortly after noon on Davis, between Warden Avenue and Bales Drive. He was deceased when he was found, media relations officer Const. Maniva Armstrong said.

The major collisions investigation unit is investigating. While it is the early stages of the investigation and they can't be certain, Armstrong said they believe the man could be the victim of a hit and run.

“We believe or suspect that it involves a fail to remain or hit-and-run type of collision and we’re appealing to anyone who may have been travelling in the area on Davis Drive that may have inadvertently struck or hit something not knowing to please come forward to speak to police,” she said.

Police are appealing to anyone who has dashcam footage from the area within the past 12 hours to review it for anything suspicious or possibly a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road there. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Davis remains closed between Bales and Warden for the investigation. Drivers in the area are asked to find an alternate route.
