An hours-long hold and secure at Aurora High School in response to a social media threat has been lifted.
It was put in place shortly after students' arrival at about 8:30 a.m. this morning, March 23, according to Licino Miguelo, senior manager of corporate communications at York Region District School Board.
York Regional Police were called to the school at Wellington Street and Murray Drive this morning, Const. Laura Nicole said, because of "a threat made over social media overnight directed at a student."
She said police were investigating and they hadn't found anything concerning at the school.
A hold and secure is different than a lockdown, Miguelo said. During a hold and secure, school operations and classes continue but the exterior doors to the building are locked, preventing anyone from entering or leaving the building.
On Twitter, a parent said the situation was "so stressful."
"My children’s high school is in “Hold and Secure” right now for a social media threat. My daughter is locked in, my son is locked out," she said.
Miguelo confirmed the hold and secure was lifted at Aurora High School at about 1:15 p.m.
