Richmond Hill motorcycle rider charged after alleged parking lot burnout

Following community complaints, York Regional Police continue to target a parking lot in Vaughan where car meets are taking place

The rider of a motorcycle has been charged after he was observed performing a burnout in a parking lot in the City of Vaughan.

On Friday, July 3, 2020, shortly after 9:30 p.m., officers were investigating vehicles and their drivers who attended a car meet in a parking lot on Windflower Gate, following weeks of complaints from the community over loud vehicle noise from cars and motorcycles.

Community complaints have included dangerous driving in the parking lot, loud noise overnight from vehicles with improper mufflers as well as reports of sounds of gun shots which have turned out to be from improper vehicle exhaust systems. While investigating, officers observed a motorcycle doing a burnout in the crowded parking lot while people stood nearby filming the stunt with their mobile phones. A short time later the rider left the parking lot.

Through further investigation officers were able to identify the rider and on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, the rider was placed under arrest and has been charged.

  • 37-year-old man from the City of Richmond Hill

Charge: 

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Oct. 29, 2020.

During targeted enforcement of modified vehicles in Vaughan from Thursday, July 9, 2020, through to the morning of Sunday, July 12, 2020, officers with the #4 District Community Oriented Response Unit and the Road Safety Bureau laid more than 70 charges for violations under the Highway Traffic Act.
