UPDATE: Police temporarily close Green Lane in pursuit of suspect

UPDATE, Oct. 10: York Regional Police responded to a report of a suspicious person with a weapon at a Newmarket address at about 1:30 p.m. Nov. 9, police said.

When officers attempted to interact with the suspect, he fled, police said.

However, he was apprehended and taken into custody. No one was injured, police added.

The area was closed while police conducted their investigation.

As the suspect had yet to be charged, police are not releasing a name or further details.

UPDATE, 5:40 p.m.: York Regional Police have re-opened the portion of Green Lane in East Gwillimbury, on the border of Newmarket, following a closure for more than two hours for an investigation.

York Regional Police have closed Green Lane, west of Yonge Street, near Newmarket after pursuing a suspect in the area.

The suspect has since been taken into custody, but due to the ongoing investigation, police aren’t sharing details at this time. However, they have confirmed there were no injuries.

Green Lane remains temporarily closed without an estimated time on when it will be reopened, police said.

They aren’t anticipating the closure to be prolonged, but are advising the public to use an alternate route.
