Police seeking witnesses of serious road rage assault in Vaughan

An arrest was made though police continue to seek witnesses as part of the investigation. The victim remains in hospital in critical condition

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking the assistance of the public after a serious assault occurred at a residence in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a residence on Theodore Place for a report of an assault. The responding officers found a 34-year-old male victim with a severe head injury. The suspect was located by police at the scene and was arrested. The victim was transported to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Through the investigation officers determined that the victim left a McDonald’s restaurant in the area of Steeles Avenue and Hilda Avenue, driving a blue Infinity. He was driving north on Hilda Avenue and was involved in a road rage incident with a driver operating a red or orange coloured van. Both vehicles stopped on Theodore place and the drivers got out and began yelling at each other. The male suspect exited a residence on Theadore Place, intervened, and the victim was struck in the head with a wooden post.

Charged: 
  • Joshua Hutchens, 21, of the City of Vaughan

Charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Fail to comply with release order

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed any portion of this incident to please come forward, including anyone who may have been at the McDonald’s Restaurant, or travelling in the area of Steeles Avenue, or Hilda Avenue, on April 13, 2021, at approximately 2:44 p.m. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have residential video surveillance or dashcam footage from the area at the time.
