Police seeking 2 people after boy, 11, approached at the ROC

Investigators with the #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau want to speak with two persons of interest following an interaction with a youth at the ROC in the Town of Georgina.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at 8:15 p.m., police were called to the ROC, located at 26479 Civic Center Rd. for a report of suspicious people.

When officers arrived, they spoke with an 11-year-old boy who advised that he had been snowboarding and while on the hill, at approximately 7:15 p.m., was approached by a woman, who offered to pay him $20 to teach her how to snowboard. At approximately 8 p.m., the guardian of the boy saw him speaking with the unknown woman and confronted her. During the confrontation the unknown woman was joined by an unknown male and claimed that she wanted to pay the boy for teaching her how to snowboard.

Investigators do not believe that a criminal offence has occurred, however, would like to speak with the people of interest involved to determine what took place.

Person of Interest #1:

  • Female, white
  • 5’0
  • Long blond hair
  • Wearing pink snow pants, black jacket and a black helmet
  • Was using a snowboard that was black and red with an image of a woman on it

Person of Interest #2:

  • Male, Asian
  • 5’9”
  • Medium build
  • Wearing black clothing

Parents and guardians should take some time to speak with their children about the following safety tips:

  • Children should be taught not to accept candy, presents or money from strangers
  • Teach your children to avoid talking to strangers
  • Listen when your child tells you that they don’t want to be with someone and find out why
  • Be alert to an adult or teenager paying too much attention to your child
