A Toronto man is facing charges after police seized a loaded handgun during a traffic stop last week in Vaughan.
At about 3 p.m. Friday, a York Regional Police officer on patrol in the area of Steeles Avenue and Yonge Street pulled over a Honda Civic. A loaded gun was found in the driver’s possession, police said in a news release.
Kristian Gorgievski, 30, has been charged with possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, failure to comply with a release order and two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited.
The accused was subject to “multiple firearms prohibitions” at the time of his arrest, police said.
“It’s always concerning when we find a loaded handgun being openly carried, especially when it’s found in the hands of someone prohibited from having firearms by the courts,” said Chief Jim MacSween. “This is another fine example of our officers diligently patrolling our communities and ensuring our streets are safe.”
