Off-duty York officer charged with impaired driving

York Regional Police has charged an off-duty officer with an impaired-related criminal driving offence.

On Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at approximately 10:15 p.m., a concerned citizen called police to report a suspected impaired driver in the area of Old Homestead Road and Kennedy Road in the Town of Georgina. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle, Det. Const. Brent Luckasavitch, was arrested for impaired driving and has been charged with impaired operation and 80 plus.

Brent Luckasavitch, 49, of the Town of Zephyr, has been a member of York Regional Police since 1991. He was assigned to the #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau.

He has been suspended with pay.

“York Regional Police is committed to transparency and is accountable to our community,” Chief Jolliffe said. “When we charge a member with a criminal offence, that information is released to our community as a part of that commitment.”
