There is no danger to the public despite a large police presence in the area of Keith Avenue and McCaffrey Road in Newmarket, York Regional Police said.

An officer on the scene said there is no risk to public safety in this incident. Residents are carrying on their business, like dog walking, and generally the area is calm.

A large number of police vehicles, including the mobile command unit, and other first responders have been on the scene for several hours.

Vehicles are blocked from going through onto Keith, but residents and pedestrians are permitted in the area.

Police have been observed in one house on the street but officers are unable to provide any details about the call at this time.
