Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged four people after a firearm-related incident in Newmarket.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a hotel at Yonge Street and Davis Drive for a report of a gunshot that came through the wall between rooms.
Officers arrived and quickly contained the area. Four suspects were taken into custody and two firearms were located, as well as a quantity of drugs.
Fortunately no one was injured.
Charged:
- Maviya Tahir, 18, of Toronto
- Bilale Usman Saleem, 26, of Toronto
- Jessica Stanko, 21, of Newmarket
- Eleni Papadopoulos, 21, of Aurora
Charges include:
- Careless use of a firearm
- Weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner
- Possession of a firearm knowing it’s possession is unauthorized x2
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition x2
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition x2
- Possession of a weapon x2
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance
- Possession of cocaine
- Tampering with serial number of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon x2
- Fail to comply with undertaking x2
Officers are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward.
