Update at 9:47 a.m.

Two females are in custody after York Regional Police responded to a call of a gun shot inside a room at the Best Western Voyageur Place Hotel at Yonge Street and Davis Drive in Newmarket.

“There were no injuries and our officers located the people involved,” York police Const. Laura Nicolle said.

It is early in the investigation and it is not known at this time what type of weapon was involved, Nicolle added.

Police are still on the scene but there is no concern for public safety and no further need to avoid the area, said Nicolle.

A motel employee said just after 9 a.m. that the situation had been cleared up and “the people who are not supposed to be here have left”.
