Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged two youths with firearms offences following their arrests in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. On Friday, May 3, 2019, shortly after 4:30 a.m., police were called to a residence on Bethesda Road for a suspicious person call. Information received was that there were two men who had been knocking on doors looking for someone to call them a taxi. When officers arrived they located two males hiding in nearby bushes and they were placed under arrest. Officers also located a handgun near where the men were arrested.

Charged:

  • 16-year-old male youth, City of Richmond Hill
  • 17-year-old male youth, Town of Newmarket

Charges include:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Firearm: tampering with a serial number
  • Breach of recognizance

The youths have been held in custody and will be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket for a bail hearing on Friday, May 3, 2019.
