Murder suspect in prom party shooting turns himself in

The 18-year-old man who was wanted for First Degree Murder has been arrested and two youths charged with firearms-related offences are now facing additional charges.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant had been issued for 18-year-old Jahdea Paterson from the City of Toronto who was wanted for First Degree Murder. Overnight, Mr. Paterson turned himself into Halton Regional Police and investigators with York Regional Police now have him in custody.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Thursday, May 9, 2019, for a bail hearing. 

Investigators have also linked the two youths who had been arrested on Bethesda Road the night of the shooting, which occurred at the residence at 6336 Bloomington Rd. East. The youths had been charged with firearms-related offences and they are now facing additional charges in relation to the murder.

Investigators have spoken with some of the attendees that were at the party, however they are still looking for witnesses who may have been there and have not yet spoken to police. A special web portal has been set up where anyone who has images or video that were taken at the party or anyone who has images that have been shared from the party, can be uploaded. The portal can be accessed on the York Regional Police website or directly through this link.

All pictures or videos uploaded will greatly assist police with this ongoing investigation. A special tip line has also been set-up and anyone with information can call 1-866-876-5423 ext. 2411. If anyone would like to provide information or upload images anonymously, they can do so through Crime Stoppers.

On Friday, May 3, 2019, shortly after 4 a.m., York Regional Police responded to a residence on 6336 Bloomington Rd. East for a weapons call. When officers arrived they located a man who was deceased. The victim was identified as Rizwaan Aboobakar WADEE, 18, from the City of Vaughan. The cause of death has been determined to be the result of a gunshot wound.
