Moped driver injured, cab driver witness sought in Vaughan collision

A taxi driver told officers he had dashcam footage, but left the scene before handing it over

York Regional Police are looking for witnesses, including a cab driver, following a collision in which a teenage moped driver was seriously injured Monday in Vaughan.

Officers were called to the intersection of Dufferin Street and Draper Boulevard at around 3:45 p.m., where a grey Ford Focus heading north on Dufferin had turned left to go west on Draper and collided with a southbound brown Yamaha moped, police said in a news release.

The 18-year-old on the moped was rushed to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The 60-year-old woman driving the Focus was not hurt and remained on scene, police said.

Investigators would like to speak with any witnesses who have not yet contacted them, or anyone with video footage of the area at the time of the crash.

They also want to speak with a taxi driver who told officers he had dashcam footage, but left the scene before handing it over.

Photographs of his vehicle can be seen above.
